Darling, it is not your fault
that you were taught love
was something you had to pry
out of closed palms.
That love was elusive,
a hidden treasure you
have to sacrifice yourself for
in order to find.
If all that you know is
giving away parts of yourself
to feel whole,
it makes sense
that toxic people keep taking
from you with no remorse.
You do not have to give to them.
Love may be something you’ve never had
or something you’ve lost before but
please know that in its purest form
it is freely given. In abundance.
Without you having to give up
parts of yourself
in exchange.
